Can I Plant Roses In July?

Dave Austin Roses, The Name In Roses Says “Aside from times of extreme weather, roses can be planted at any time during the year. “

You can plant from spring through till autumn, just make sure that the ground is in good condition before planting and your rose will be fine.

How To Plant A Rose

With roses, you want to dig a really big hole which we will later backfill with good compost. It’s also well worthwhile adding a little compost to the bottom of the hole.

Position the rose deep in the hole, if it is a bare root plant then this means the bottom of the stems should end up around 5cm below the soil line.

Refill your hole with compost and then give it a really good soak. You can really overwater them at this stage so don’t worry about getting carried away, a full watering can is a good amount.

Where to plant a rose

Roses like sunlight but can grow in partial shade, as long as it has sunlight for a part of the day then it will be fine.

The main thing you need to think about when planting a rose is space, will the rose have enough room to spread? They grow very large!

You will also want to think about how exposed the spot is, does it get a lot of wind? Being large, tall plants roses are susceptible to wind damage.
