Quality, that’s what this weed puller says to me as soon as I pick it up. It just feels well built, which is a nice change compared to a lot of modern gardening equipment. We seem to be stuck in a never-ending race to the bottom in terms of price, and unfortunately, quality. But this Fiskars tool bucks that trend, at least so far.

Fiskars Xact Weed Puller

This is a tool created to pull weeds out of your lawn, soil, beds etc without needing to bend down. It does that really well actually. All the operation of the tool can be done easily from a standing position. If you are looking at getting this because you find bending over hard then rest assured that you can fully use this tool to rip weeds out of your garden without ever having to bend over.

I tested the Fiskars Xact Weed Puller on nettles, dandelions and grass, some tricky customers and it fared really well on all three. This is what we use at the allotment now if we ever spot any nettles. You can get rid of them quickly and easily without ever having to worry about getting stung.

It worked well on the dandelions and grass too, with the dandelions it managed to pull out a good chunk of the taproot and on grass, it also brought plenty of root with it.

How to use the Fiskars weed puller

If you are thinking of getting one of these weed pullers then you will want to know how they work. To help you out I took a few quick photos as I was using the puller to show you how it removes weeds.

Step 1 – Arrange the spikes around the weed

Arrange the metal spikes at the end of the tool around the weed that you want to remove.

Step 2 – Push down into the ground

Now you simply push the tool into the ground around the weed.

Step 3 – Put your foot on the black plastic

Now you place your foot onto the black plastic bit that works as a lever. This closes the metal spikes up together really tight and is what holds onto the weed.

Step 4 – Lever the puller up

Now with your foot still on the black plastic, you simply lever the Fiskars puller out of the ground and it brings the weed and root out with it.

You can then release the weed using the orange handle halfway up the weed puller. This almost feels like you are reloading a shotgun in a movie and is a fun way to dump those pesky weeds!

What I like about the Fiskars weed puller

  • It makes weed removal fun and easy and I really mean that. This is the only tool my wife will use now to weed our allotment as she loves it that much.
  • You also can get so many more weeds up in the same amount of time it would take you using a hand trowel for example.
  • The tool allows you to remove weeds like nettles without ever having to get your hands close to the weed.
  • While not needed for me personally I can how this could transform an elderly or disabled gardener’s weeding experience.

What I dislike about the Fiskars weed puller

  • It tends to take quite a bit of ground with it when you remove a weed. Not a massive issue but it is worth mentioning, particularly if you plan on using this on a lawn.
  • I don’t know how well it would work on a hard compacted soil such as an old lawn as the spikes are quite large and would require quite a bit of force to get into compacted soil.
  • The price, let’s be honest it is not the cheapest tool out there. This is not a major dislike for me though as I think the quality of the tool justifies the price.

Should I buy this weed puller?

For me yes, you should. It makes weed pulling easy and fun and feels really sturdy and quality. If you struggle to bend down and weed then I would buy this right now without hesitation, even if you don’t I would still say get this weed puller.

  1. I’ve had one of these for a long time, maybe 10 years. It is well built. In the last few years it started jamming up. The metal claws have a point of contact between themselves up inside near where they attach to the unit that has worn down/indented. I flipped around the jaws and is better, though not perfect. I should have done this more proactively when the jamming issue first arose.
